Very slim and lightweight power package looks like a consumer device, but addresses harsh environments in industry, logistics and medicine

Munich, June 8, 2021 – With the FuturePAD FPQ10, Munich-based value added distributor Concept International now has a new rugged tablet in its product range. It has been specially designed for user needs in harsh environments and is IP65 certified. The wide range of possible uses extends from outdoor applications such as construction sites, fire departments or rescue services to logistics and human-machine interface applications as well as use in service and maintenance. For medical use, a white variant specified to EN60601-1 is available, which comes with an antimicrobial-coated housing and glass. Weighing just 650 grams and 10.8 mm thick despite a fully integrated laser scanner, the FPQ10 is extremely light and thin, guaranteeing a user experience as high quality as a consumer tablet. The FuturePAD FPQ10 is available with either Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC or Android 10. With a runtime of up to 24 hours in full operation, the Android system is far ahead of comparable systems.

Rugged elegance in black and white

The new FuturePAD FPQ10 from Concept International combines an extremely robust design with the elegance and user-friendliness of consumer tablets. The system, which weighs 650 grams and is very thin at 10.8 mm, is IP65 and MIL-STD-810G certified, making it not only resistant to vibrations, shocks and drops from up to 1.20 m, but also dust and splash-proof. In the medical white variant, the FPQ10 is also certified according to EN60601-1. This means that the tablet is electromagnetically compatible and can therefore even be used in critical areas such as intensive care or in the operating room. The housing and glass have an antimicrobial coating and can be cleaned with up to 80 percent alcohol.

The display offers full HD resolution (1920 x 1200 pixels) with a luminosity of 800 cd/m². The glass is tempered and has been especially anti-reflective for industrial requirements. This allows effortless reading of small displays and using the tablet in bright environments and outdoors. The display is also capacitive touch-enabled, allowing ten-finger taps and can also be used with gloves or a digitizer pen for writing.

Two Turbo configurations for Android and Windows

Inside the tablet, the Android version runs a 2.2 GHz octa-core mobile processor from Qualcomm, which is supported by 4 GB of RAM. There is 64 GB of internal memory available. In the Windows configuration, an Intel Core M3 CPU and 8 GB of RAM did duty. Windows users fall back on 128 GB of internal storage. The internal memory can be expanded with an SD card in both device versions.

All-round interface package

The FPQ10 receives data via dual WLAN, cellular radio, Bluetooth 5.0 and USB-C. The optionally available docking station also provides interfaces for Ethernet, RS232 and 485 as well as USB 3.0 and 2.0. A version with HDMI will also be available soon. Thus, a complete workstation with keyboard and monitor can be accomplished with one plug-in. Furthermore, the FPQ10 masters NFC for authenticating objects and people. The tablet can process location data from all common GPS systems.

Integrated Zebra scanner with high-resolution image sensor

As a world first, the tablet has an extremely compact laser scanner from Zebra, which disappears into the 10 mm thick front edge without adding bulk. This reads barcodes and QR codes even through bubble wrap or on curved and reflective surfaces. Additional peripheral devices such as handheld scanners are therefore not necessary and, in conjunction with the light weight, handling is improved, especially in logistics.

Multi-shift operation with one battery charge

The FPQ10 is available in both a version with Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC and a version with Android 10. Thanks to a powerful battery and resource-saving OS, the Android tablet can run without interruption in 24-hour operation. The Windows version manages a continuous operation of twelve hours – compared to the industry-standard six to eight hours of other rugged Windows tablets. Should the FPQ10 run out of juice, it can be recharged via USB-C interface within a very short time: within 1.5 hours to 80 percent.

Remote access via SOTI Mobile Client

In addition to the docking station, accessories include a wall mount, a car dock as well as a hand strap and a digital active pen, all useful additions in logistics, service or maintenance.

The system can be accessed remotely via SOTI Mobile Client, for example to read battery or software statuses or to import software updates remotely. This enables company-wide device management.
