Ultra-rugged and highly mobile: DT Research’s 8-inch DT381RP tablet for armed forces
Munich, August 8, 2024 – With the new DT381RP, Munich-based value-added distributor Concept International offers a powerful rugged tablet specifically for military use. The rugged tablet from DT Research, one of the main suppliers to the US military, enables mobile communication as well as data collection and AI and machine learning analysis thanks to its high-performance CPU in networked field operations. The device is available now.
The ultra-mobile rugged tablet DT381RP weighs just 1.2 kilograms and can be easily carried by soldiers or worn on their vests. For networked field use, a particularly accurate U-Blox GNSS module for centimeter-precise positioning and Wi-Fi is on board, as well as optional 4G LTE. If required, external antennas ensure the best reception even in buildings and vehicles. The tablet can be used with VESA standard mounts in vehicles and on the desk via various docking/charging stations.
Powerful and secure
Inside the compact 8-inch tablet is the currently most powerful 13th generation Intel Core i mobile processor “Raptor Lake” (i5 or i7) with a whopping 16 GB RAM and up to 1 TB SSD storage. The high performance of the device allows extensive data collection and analysis, for example information on position and movements in the field using sensors such as GPS, external accelerometer and gyroscope. Long-range Bluetooth with a data connection up to 300 meters away can also be used to connect other high-precision GNSS measuring devices on the roof of a tank to determine the position with centimetre accuracy. The high-performance CPU also ensures that decisions are made correctly in the field using AI and machine learning analysis software. Real-time information also makes it possible to control unmanned systems such as drones.
With a choice of Windows 10/11 IoT Enterprise or Windows 10/11 Pro, the tablet can be optimally integrated into existing IT infrastructures. A BIOS compliant with the NIST Cybersecurity Framework is available for the highest security requirements. As is usual with military rugged tablets, the hard disk is easily accessible so that mission-critical data can be easily removed if necessary. The Trusted Platform Module (TPM 2.0) supports secure access control and authentication.
The 8-inch LED touchscreen (1280 x 800 resolution) with 800 cd/m² brightness is fully anti-glare and can be operated intuitively even in daylight. Optional 8 MP front and rear cameras with autofocus support documentation in the field. The hot-swap batteries (45 Wh) ensure uninterrupted operation with a runtime of seven hours. Batteries with 60 Wh (9 hours) and 90 Wh (12 hours) are available on request.
Robust and durable in extreme environments
The device can withstand extreme environmental conditions. It can be operated at 0 to 90 percent humidity and temperatures from -10°C to 60°C as standard. Thanks to an optional integrated heat pad, it can also be operated in extremely cold conditions down to -30°C.
IP65 certification guarantees complete protection against dust ingress (dust-tight) and protection against water jets (nozzle) from any angle. This also makes the Rugged Tablet suitable for marine applications. Vibration and drop resistance from at least 1.2 m is guaranteed by the military standard MIL-STD-810H. The MIL-STD-461G certification confirms the increased electromagnetic compatibility of the device, for example when used in mobile command centers or field hospitals. Thanks to its antimicrobial surface, the tablet can also be used in field hospitals to record medical data.

List price of the DT381RP and service from Concept
The DT381RP rugged tablet is now available from Concept International. The list price starts at 2,400 euros net (recommended retail price).
